Nynas supports school libraries in Venezuela

A couple of years ago Nynas started to support Banco del Libro, an internationally renowned organisation, the purpose of which is to encourage children and teenagers, primarily from low-income families in Venezuela, to develop an interest in reading.

The first concrete result of this partnership was a new school library in Ciudad Ojeda in the federal state of Zulia next to Lake Maracaibo, where Nynas sources its crude oil. At the end of March two more new school libraries in the same region were declared open. 

Each library has around 1,200 books, selected by the experienced staff at El Banco del Libro. As well as book purchases, the premises were repainted and the old furniture that could be used was repaired, while new items of furniture were bought.

The teachers were also given some training, which is important as they are the ones responsible for running the daily programmes at each library. The two new libraries will reach about 2,900 pupils.
